We have made very significant progress lately with the completion of the ETH/aux gen set overhaul and the work overhauling the ex 50008 power unit and associated purchasing of new engine components. However, at the same time, EWS/DB Schenker have sold for scrap a large number of class 37 and 56 locomotives and this represents a chance - very probably the last and biggest chance we will get - to obtain large quantities of replacement and spare parts to ensure a healthy restoration and running future for 50029 and 50030. The importance of obtaining these spares cannot be over-emphasised: in many cases the parts might only cost £20 or so from a scrap loco but would cost significantly more to have remanufactured. In other cases, for example, electrical machines, such as exhausters and traction motor blowers, are in better condition on the scrap locos than the ones we already have and using them will save time and money on overhauls during our project and will ensure we have spares for the future.
We, as the managing committee of the Group, feel we absolutely have to purchase these items but we need to fund the generator overhaul and power unit parts at the same time. Quite simply, we are in severe danger of draining the bank account completely and, whilst we realise it is not the best of times to be asking for financial help, we really do need it! We are therefore seeking sponsorship for the items listed below: please contact us if there is a specific item you would like to sponsor. If you do not wish to sponsor a specific component we will allocate appropriate items commensurate to the sponsorship amount.
All sponsorship will count as contributions towards shares in the Group (unless of course you wish to make a donation). Please help if you can: your help will ensure 50029 and 50030 stand a far greater chance of running again.
Thank you!
The Committee of the Renown Repulse Restoration Group
