Bodywork restoration

As any devotee of English Electric products will know, the cab sides are very prone to rotting away.  Years of open storage in Wales (or anywhere else for that matter!) doesn't help.  During the initial cosmetic restoration of 50029 and 50030 we cut away the rotten cab sides and welded new metal in.  However the front of the cabs, and in particular the section just underneath the headcode boxes, is another problem area.  One of 2009's tasks is to plug these holes up so we can make the cabs watertight and get on with restoring at least one to "show home" condition.

We now have nearly all of the parts we need.  Some of the ones we are missing, such as one or two of the control units, were loaned to us by friends of the Group and we aim to figure out how they work and build copies.  This has already happened in the case of the CU7 ETH detector unit.

Generator sets

For a number of years our ETH and Auxiliary generator sets have been with a rewind company for overhaul, unfortunately little progress had been made, and last summer the company advised us that they did not want to undertake the job, as it was larger than the type of equipment they more normally deal with. Following this set back the generators were moved to Bowers Electrical of Heaner, (who had been recomended to us by Paul Spracklen owner of 50026 Indomitable). Bowers have wasted little time in getting started on the overhaul of the best of the two generator sets, and work is now complete.

The almost finished ETH/Auxiliary Generator set is seen at Bowers Electrical of Heanor.
