50017 Royal Oak
During the summer of 2009 50017 Royal Oak was puchased from it's previous owner Dr Rex Kennedy by a private individual, with a view to baseing the loco at the Plym Valley Railway. Here the loco is seen on the 3rd June 2009 descending Telegraph Hill on the A38 during the journey south.
Here 50017 is seen passing the turn off for the South Devon Railway where sister loco 50002 Supurb is undergoing restoration to operational condition and unrefurbished appearance.

Upon arrival fun and games were had as a number of cars had been parked very close to the Plym Valley Railways approach road, preventing access to the site. After a substantial delay the owners of the vehicles were contacted, but the lorry then got tied up in the Plymouth rush hour as hundreds of cars left the near by factory. Eventually when things had quietened down the loco was eased onto it's new home base.
Since arriving at the Plym Valley Railway on the 3rd June 2009 the new owner has spent a fair amount of time on the loco which culminated in her being fired up for the first time in a while on 1st November 2009 and later moved under its own power. The loco still requires furtehr work to be undertaken to get her running properly and then attention will turn to the bodywork, but it is hoped that 50017 will be running in the summer of 2010.
