Gordon's Final Fling (At Peak Rail)
The weekend of the 27th and 28th of September 2008 was to provide a last oppertunity for everyone to ride behind D9016 on Peak Rail, and at the time it was thought to be the last oppertunity to ride on the loco at all, as it was thought that the loco was destined to be broken for spares. Fortunately Gordon has lived to run another day, and is now following a period with DRS safely re-united with 55022 at the ELR .

| The 15.20 service from Rowsley to Matlock is seen coasting into Darley Dale, the short section of double track line making D9016 look at home. In the photographers opinion Deltic's have always been a difficult class to take pictures of in preservation as they rarely look right unless on a double track mainline. (Mark Burrows) |

| The operation of the level crossing gates at Darley Dale provided the opportunity for a quick dash round to the foot crossing south of Darley Dale to grab another view of the 15.20 Rowsley to Matlock service with a nice plume of exhaust, unfortunately the lighting on this second view was far from ideal. | Godon Highlander is seen storming north out of Darley Dale on the short section of double track with the 15.46 Matlock to Rowsley service, this was to be Gordons penultimate northbound run on Peak Rail. (Mark Burrows) |
 |
| D9016 Gordon Highlander is seen departing Rowsley for the last time with the 16.20 service to Matlock. The choice of location was partly due to the photographer being one of the RRRG members that was manning the sales stand on this understandably busy weekend. (Mark Burrows) |

| D9016 Gordon Highlander approaches Rowsley with its last ever working on Peak Rail, the 16.46 Matlock to Rowsley on the 28th Septemeber 2008. Although at the time it was thought the loco was to be scrapped, it has since been bought by RSG and may be returned to mainline service. The Deltic is currently at Bury ELR. (Mark Burrows) |
