In 50030’s generator room the floor mounted conduits had been badly damaged (cut). These have all now been removed. The floor is seen following removal of the conduits ready for cleaning and painting. The conduits will be replaced with a mixture of those salvaged from 500023, 50030 and 50040 prior to its scrapping.
In the generator room of both locos the potentiometer stand had been bent at sometime, most likely when the ETH/Auxiliary generator sets were removed. With the aid of some heavy wood and a heavy duty jack this steel frame has been straightened, welded, cleaned, refitted and painted in both loco’s. This picture shows the repaired frame in 50030.
50030's brake frame is seen in August 2011 stripped of all of the components that had been temporarily fitted to it in order to allow it to be repainted. Teh exhauster has also been disconnected ready to be lifted and exchanged for the overhauled unit at Bowers.
